  • Notes of Meeting held 14 May 2002 at 28 Stockwell Park Crescent

    In Attendance:

Bill Wetterstad, Dafydd Jones, Ian Sweeney, Graham Campbell, Martin Keiffer, Peter Conradi, Christine Keiffer, Oliver Laughton-Scott

The following is Oliver?s attempt to sum up a meeting about a highly nebulous subject.

    Focus

It was agreed that initially the focus should be on what is of interest to the residents of the seven streets centred around Slade Gardens (SPR, SPC, Lorn Road, Groveway, Burnley Road, St Michael?s Road, St Martin?s Road).

Clearly people from outside may wish to view the site and this does not present a issue. Certain groups (such as the choir) may wish to recruit from outside the Seven Streets and this can be made clear on their page.

The issue of how many people have access to the internet was raised. It was anticipated that probably over 50% did (volunteers for getting people started?).

Oliver reported that up to ?2000 was already raised for the project. Generally agreed costs should be nothing like this.

    List of Topics

The following represents a list of ideas divided into groups (it may be sensible for one person from the ?committee? to take responsibility for a ?group? in order to encourage a certain consistency and quality)

Peter kindly volunteered to look at other ideas to be included and providing a hierarchy.

    Encouraging other Helpers

It was agreed that others should be encouraged to become involved.

We have been asked to say a few words at the residents association which starts at 7.30pm on Thursday 23 May 2002. Peter agreed to attend and say a few words. In his absence Bill will cover if he can make it, if not words need to be forwarded to residents association.

Martin will encourage the members of the choir to get involved.

    Setting Up Site

Two approaches; bespoke or ?community template?.

    Advantages of the two approaches:

    Bespoke

    Template

    Easier to search for

Will not contain advertising of provider

    Look better

    Far more flexible

    Easy to set up

    Effectively free

Decided to start with a community web site, is sufficient interest, migrate to own. It might be worth registering a domain (funds not an issue).

It was agreed we should start building the web site immediately and worry later about getting a polished result.

Ian to set up community web site. Martin to do home page. Oliver to draft ?help required? page. Peter to put structure in place. Everybody else get posting and encourage other groups to post.

Ideas for potential designers should be sent to Oliver.

Ian was most informative on setting up the site. Without his input progress would have been far slower and a simple way forward not apparent. Many thanks.

    Monthly News Letter

Consideration should be given to having a monthly news letter.

Issues; who to write it, collecting email addresses.

    Action Points

Date of next meeting; 11th June at 9pm, 28 SPC.

Peter to attend Residents Association AGM.

Martin will encourage the members of the choir to get involved.

Ian to set up community web site. Martin to do home page. Oliver to draft ?help required? page. Peter to put structure in place. Everybody else get posting and encourage other groups to post.

We want to encourage as much fresh input to the site as possible. If you would like to contribute, please . All feedback is welcome.
