Plaque at Tate South Lambeth Road Library

This plaque, or foundation stone, set into the wall to the right of the Tate South Lambeth Road Library entrance, records the donation of the site and library to Lambeth Libraries Commissioners in 1887.

Henry Tate, whose wealth came from the sugar industry, also provided financial support to establish the Tate Gallery, Tate Library Brixton, and Tate Library Streatham.
