To whom it may concern :

I have written to the Highways Dept of Lambeth Council to suggest that traffic-calming measures be installed in St. Michaels Road, particularly now that the new tarmac laid last week provides such a temptation to speed-merchants (in both senses of that word).

I take it that somebody has already thought of this and taken steps to get it implemented - the Residents Association for example? In any case I will keep the website informed."

of 19 St. Michael's Road says (24/1/03): "

Public consultation over Stockwell Square, a proposed suburban piazza at the Clapham Road end of Binfield Road, seems to have passed most people by. There is a small display currently (until Saturday 4pm) at the Stockwell Community Centre. The scheme is due to go ahead this spring. I believe it is profoundly misconceived, suitable perhaps for a garden suburb, but not for an inner London semi-slum whose population will not respond to being 'tidied up' by officialdom. The only people with time or the inclination to hang about in 'Stockwell Square' are likely to be drunks and drug dealers.

The closure of Binfield Road will be inconvenient for car owners on the Studley Estate and it will shut off another route between Brixton and Wandsworth Road. The extra buses and traffic in Lansdowne Way will cause congestion.

I have registered my objection to the scheme, but I feel that others should at least be aware of it."
