Slade Gardens voted Adventure Playground of the Year

Slade Gardens Adventure Playground has won the London Adventure Playground of the Year Award for 2003 and a prize of ?3000 worth of play equipment from eibe-play. The annual award is organised by London Play and was presented to the children at Slade Gardens by Phyllis Dunipace, Lambeth's director of education, at a ceremony at the playground on 31 October.

Children from last year's winner were at the ceremony and said: "Congratulations to Slade Gardens. They've got a really, really, really nice playground. They deseve to win."

London Play says of the award "We are not looking for the biggest or best resourced playground, but one where children really enjoy going and where they are happy."

The process started with nominations, including drawings, sent in by the children, and the judges included five children from last year's winning playground - Charlie Chaplin - so Lambeth playgrounds have now won two years running. The reasons for Slade Gardens winning included:

The Adventure Playground award is supported by eibe-play, manufacturers of playground equipment, and Burdens, civil engineering and construction materials specialists.

Neighbourhood Watch Co-ordinators

HELP NEEDED URGENTLY! Gill and William Wayne are no longer able to co-ordinate Neighbourhood

Watch and need someone to take over as soon as possible. The job involves liaising with the Home Beat

Officers of both Vassall and Stockwell Wards, keeping residents posted about police initiatives and crime

in the area (via the Stockwell website and this newsletter), organising three or four general meetings a

year and attending Stockwell Park Residents9 Association Meetings.

If you can help, please contact Gill Wayne on 7274 5775 or any SPRA committee member.
