STOCKWELL PARK RESIDENTS’ ASSOCIATION

Minutes of committee meeting held on Tuesday 22 August 2006

Present: Anthony and Janine Gladstone-Thompson, Elizabeth Aves, Amanda Cornish.

Apologies: Simon Doff, Simon Henley, Caroline Hirst, Maria Gotley.

Treasury: A donation of £600 had been received from a Plante Productions, as a thank-you to residents for disruption caused during filming of an episode of ‘Trial and Retribution’ in Stockwell Park Road and the Crescent.  Agreed this should be added to Summer Festival proceeds for distribution to charitable causes.  Current candidates are:  St Michael’s Church spire fund, YMCA gym, St Andrew’s School and the Type Museum.  It was agreed that, as the Adventure Playground is receiving £3,000 from the now defunct Friends of Slade Gardens, no donation will be given this year.  Anthony Gladstone-Thompson will contact Christopher Chitty regarding the church spire.  News awaited from Simon Doff regarding a suitable project at St Andrew’s School.  Final sums and recipients to be agreed at next meeting.

Planning and Environment:

Traffic Calming:  (a) speed tables:  A misunderstanding about extravagant colour changes to road humps was clarified. Elizabeth Aves confirmed the report she had made at the last meeting that, following the request made by  residents at the Public Meeting on 2 February 2006, Lambeth Transport had specified black installations. The Chief Highways Engineer had advised her that the contractor had erroneously installed the red tables and had been required to replace them at his own expense.  It was agreed that Liz should write to the website rectifying the situation. (b) contractor’s equipment/debris: It was noted that a variety of contractor’s equipment was littering the streets following completion of the traffic calming installations and it was agreed to ask Lambeth Transport to arrange for its removal.

Church hall:   Canon Grant had received a letter asking whether noise levels from the Sunday afternoon Pentecostal service in the hall could be modified in any way. The committee wondered whether an amplifier was being used.

Lorn Road:  (a) garage development:  Thanks were expressed to Simon Henley for his assistance to Lorn Road residents in objecting to proposed development of the existing commercial garage.  (b) lorry gate:  It was noted that an ugly high gate has been installed in Lorn Road between the front garden of no. 2a and the rear gardens of the houses in Brixton Road, presumably to deter lorries parking in the lane to the allotments.

Lidl site:  Amanda reported that, in the absence of obtaining its hoped-for planning permission, Lidl has let its site in Clapham Road to Ryness Electrical (wholesale) on a one year lease.  It was noted that the trees in Clapham Road which had been brutally cut back when illegal advertising hoardings had been erected, had begun to grow once more.

Annual General Meeting:  Agreed: Liz/Amanda will publicise through the website and a flyer (Liz to contact Darius Poli for assistance); Anthony will arrange collection of church hall keys, supply of wines, setting-out, and ask Caroline Hirst to do the minutes.  Agenda to include:  Chairman’s introduction (AG-T); accounts, subscriptions, fund-raising (Simon Doff); Summer Festival (Amanda Cornish to arrange report); traffic-calming and environmental matters (Elizabeth Aves); planning (Simon Henley); church restoration (Canon Grant or Christopher Chitty); Neighbourhood Watch (David Tomlinson).  Anthony to invite George Clarke to report on Stockwell Park Estate proposed developments.  Amanda to invite those present to add their names to the on-line minutes distribution list.

Thanks to Anthony and Janine for hosting this meeting.

NEXT MEETING: 7.30 p.m. Monday 9 October

at Amanda Cornish, 28 Stockwell Park Road.
