Treasury: £200 from last year’s Festival funds to be donated towards Stockwell Park High School’s new Sports Academy. Now designated a Business and Enterprise College, the new Sports Academy – the first of several Academies in their plan - aims to offer scholarships and bursaries to enable selected pupils to widen their participation in sport beyond the curriculum and develop their talents. The school aims to raise £5,000 for initial pot of funds. (For more about the school’s plans contact Amanda Cornish. 7735 8792)
Planning, Environment: David Tomlinson was thanked for his vigilance in the matter of Traffic Calming proposals and Elizabeth Aves for planning and arranging the 2nd February 2006 meeting. As a result, Lambeth will re-examine the plans for our area with the following in mind: a) inclusion of a speed table at St. Michael’s /St. Martin’s Road junction; b) ensuring the tables are high enough to enforce speed restriction (the present one at Lorn Rd./Stockwell Park Rd junction is ignored); c) storm drains are unimpeded; d) appearance in keeping with Conservation Area; e) 20 mph speed restriction throughout area. Liz reported that work on revised plans is already underway. Residents will be consulted again before formal consultation procedures start. Lambeth will carry out the work as soon as these procedures are complete, using money carried over from this year’s budget. 14-24 Crescent gates: Liz reported that the developers have made a further application to put gates across entrance to new houses at rear of the development (an original application was refused). The local residents strongly object to a ‘gated community’. Liz will write letter of objection on behalf of SPRA. 32-34 Crescent: Lambeth has rejected an application to erect wrought iron gates across St. Michael’s Rd. garages, preferring wooden ones. Garage owners will appeal. Revised application for gates to rear of properties in the Crescent being prepared by residents. Stockwell Park High School: football in Slade Gardens: Anthony Bottrall had notified SPRA that the school would like to develop a football pitch in Slade Gardens. Concept welcomed in principle providing no loss of green space or of general access. Liz to request more details. Freemans site: Garbe Regeneration have arranged a series of ‘listening’ dates. Check with www.thefreemans-site.org. Drinks Licence applications: 240 Brixton Rd. This premises has been selling alcohol without licence and now applied for 24/7 licence. The police are opposing it and David, Anthony and Liz have already written to oppose it too. Presco Food and Wine 67 Stockwell Rd. have also been selling alcohol illegally and have now applied for 24/4 licence. Thanks to Sgt.Graeme Bailey for keeping neighbourhood informed of this. Thanks too to Ian Sweeney for putting information on various applications on the website. Heathrow flights increase: 1,000 extra flights each week planned i.e. a plane every 90 seconds, breaking Government promise to cap flights. Liz to liaise with L:ucy Annan regarding registering an objection behalf of SPRA. 100 Hackford Road: Susan Shaw has requested SPRA support to oppose development proposals. More details please.
