Treasury: Following the last meeting, several residents had expressed the view that monies raised at the Summer Festival should be donated to charity and not used for administration of the Association. Simon Doff is drafting words for the special newsletter aimed to encourage voluntary subscriptions.
Newsletter: Simon Doff/Elizabeth Aves will endeavour to get the special issue of the newsletter completed for distribution as soon as possible.
Winter issue: The carol concert will be on Sunday 4 December at 4.30 pm followed by a Neighbourhood Get-Together so the newsletter should be distributed during week commencing 7 November. Liz will liaise with Darius Poli regarding his availability for both issues.
Advertising: In response to requests to advertise in the newsletter, it was agreed unanimously that this would not only provide a useful service but also an additional source of income. Liz expressed concern that it would add considerable extra work to compilation and production of the newsletter. It was agreed to offer a simple format to potential advertisers, say 40cm across one column, for £25, and to assess the situation after one issue.
Planning and the environment:
14-24 Stockwell Park Crescent: Tom Maxwell, on behalf of residents living adjacent to this site, had expressed a number of concerns which include: amendments to the original planning application, in particular the erection of fences instead of walls; contravention of rules regarding hours of working; removal of a street light to widen access to the site which has resulted in increased crime; concerns regarding the possible removal of more trees.
- Anthony Gladstone-Thompson to send the letter drafted by David Tomlinson regarding perimeter walls to the relevant councillors and council officials.
- If required the Association will write in support of the residents complaining about late working on the site.
- It was noted that a site has been agreed for a new street light but that difficulties are being experienced with electrical connection by EDF.
- The Association will endeavour to provide any future support which may be required.
32-34 Stockwell Park Crescent: No response had been received to crime prevention officer Rob Harrison’s letter to the Council recommending acceptance of an application to erect gates to the rear of these properties and to garages in St Michael’s Road. The residents are to resubmit the application enclosing copies of supporting letters. Liz to liaise with Vivien Cook regarding a letter from the Association. Simon Doff to seek Simon Henley’s comments.
Parking bays in Stockwell Park Crescent: David Tomlinson had arranged a meeting with council officials responsible for parking bays, the site manager for 14-24 SPC and Cllr Anthony Bottrall which had also been attended by Tom Maxwell and Elizabeth Aves. Chris Roberts-Wray of the highways department had agreed that new residents’ bays should be installed outside 14-24, except for the entrance to the new development; and that the ambulance bay (belatedly repainted only recently) should be replaced with residents’ bays. The metered bays at the north end of the Crescent to be made dual use with residents.
Proposed closure of Albert Square: Extreme concern was expressed at proposals for the closure of Albert Square, Fentiman Road and the roads between, to through traffic between Clapham Road and South Lambeth Road. Not only will it make access from this side of Clapham Road difficult, it will also create huge displacement through this conservation area. It was noted that the Vauxhall Society is opposed to the proposals unless the one-way system in Lansdowne Way is reversed. It was agreed Anthony should write offering support to the Vauxhall Society and, if they wish, write to the Council strongly opposing the plan.
Neighbourhood Watch: David Tomlinson’s very comprehensive report had been distributed via the website, providing a valuable summary of recent police appointments and local crime.
Thank you, Kass, for hosting this meeting.
Next Meeting: Monday 28 November at 7.30 pm at Roberta Bonometti and Peter Conradi – 2a Lorn Road
