STOCKWELL PARK RESIDENTS? ASSOCIATION
Minutes of meeting held 21 January 2003
1. Present: Anthony Gladstone-Thompson (chairman), Elizabeth Aves, Amanda Cornish, Caroline Hirst, Simon Doff.
2. Apologies: Christopher Chitty, John Davis, Martin Kenyon, Gill Wayne.
3. Accounts: ?1135 currently in bank. Christmas party had raised ?214 through the bar and raffle, and cost ?266 with subsequent loss of ?52, much in line with previous years.
4. Christmas Party: Anthony has written thanks to donors of raffle prizes. He will research church hall availability and possible dates for this year (Friday 12 or Monday 15 December) in order to avoid clashes with various school functions. Caroline to book Diane Golding for puppet show as soon as date confirmed. Consideration to be given to starting children?s function at slightly later time of 6.00 pm.
Noted that we must book glasses well in advance to ensure availability.
5. Planning and Environment:
Church Hall: Christopher Chitty had reported that problems with outside lighting had now mostly been rectified. ?8450 raised to date with a further ?5000 expected from Stockwell Community Grants Fund. Damp and timber treatment and external repairs had been undertaken and internal redecoration and improvements will be commenced once Stockwell grant received. Significantly more work needed for which it is hoped to receive more funding.
Freemans' site (131-143 Clapham Road): Proposed redevelopment includes office use for Freemans, small office units, health and fitness centre, restaurant/cafe, convenience shop, 298 residential units (including 83 affordable homes) and amenity space. Proposed to:
- retain the listed building at no. 135;
- retain the 19th century printworks (now Freemans) and convert to residential use;
- demolish unlisted 20th century buildings and replace with new residential blocks.
- reduce car parking on the site.
Proposed to discourage the private car and encourage use of alternative means (walking, cycling, public transport).
Closing date for comments had been 12 January, 2003 and the Albert Square and Durand Gardens residents had been diligently working to ensure the best solution, with SPRA?s support.
Stockwell Square (Binfield Road): Noted that there are mixed reactions to the closure of Binfield Road and establishment of a pedestrian precinct.
Resurfacing programme: Resurfacing mostly completed in St Michael?s, St Martins and Burnley Roads. This much due to Anthony Bottrall?s influence and that he had ensured that the whole and not just part of St Michael?s, as proposed by the Council, had been resurfaced.
Street lighting: Simon is proposing to pursue his street lighting initiative with local councillors in February.
Tyre dumping: There had been a further dump of approximately 150 tyres in St Michael?s Road. Hoped the perpetrators can be identified and caught.
6. Neighbourhood Watch: Noted that there is once again a door-to-door ?non? salesman operating in the area.
7. Website (www.stockwellpark.com): Site appears to be flourishing and is anxious for input, output and comments.
8. Next meeting:
Tuesday 11 March at Elizabeth Aves? at 23 Stockwell Park Crescent.
Thanks Simon for hosting this meeting ? a delight!
