  • ADVENTURE PLAYGROUND NEWS

Almost four years on from the new committee being formed and our three playworkers being appointed, the adventure playground is thriving, and developing in exciting ways.

With grants from the South East London Community Foundation and Lambeth Match Partnership Fund, we now have a fourth playworker, Kathy Fuller, working especially with 5 to 7 year-olds who use the playground in growing numbers, to make it more accessible and enjoyable for them. This is in line with our new registration with OFSTED, but the idea originally came from the children themselves. The other improvement they want is for the playground to be more accessible for disabled children, and that is one of our next aims.

The outdoor play structures, some of the largest in London, needed repair and restoration. We have raised funds from a range of sources while the work has been going on. We achieved the sum needed to complete the two structures by Lorn Road in time for the Easter holidays. The work has been done by people who are playworkers as well as builders, so they have involved the children fully in the design and the detail.

Working with Trees for London, and with help from volunteers and children, we have done a great deal of planting of trees, shrubs and a wildlife garden. A big part of our plan for the coming year is to seek funds and support to go on improving the natural environment and the look of the playground, with the children?s help, at the same time a designing and developing an outdoor area specifically for 5 to 7 year-olds.
