LIDL site, Clapham Road

2005-04-08, Friday 8th April, 2005

LIDL rep Guy Russ rang David Tomlinson to say:

  1. their (Lidl's) lawyer had stopped them employing squatters as caretakers. [ David has put Guy on to a 'site-sitting' company and suggested he try another lawyer. He will do so promptly. ] So far squatters assure him no party is expected this weekend.
  2. He and the LIDL UK Property Director Ingo Elbs would like to meet Residents next week to discuss their outline plans for development of the site. This is an excellent opportunity to get input at an early stage, long before a planning application goes in. They are available for a local meeting any time next Wednesday 13 April or pm Friday 15 April. This should be led by somebody close to the site. Guy Russ's contact numbers are office: 01372 728932 mobile: 07971 440016.
  3. They (Lidl) want to demolish the warehouse / car showroom urgently (leaving the listed house in situ), to deal with the rave problem, and as suggested by Police and Lambeth Community Safety Officer Dominic Busby. However Lambeth Planning say it normally takes months to get a permission to demolish in a Conservation Area through the bureaucracy.

David therefore suggests that if those residents nearest the site want this to go ahead promptly they should ask the SPRA to write formally to Lambeth Planning, copy all the local Councillors, requesting 'fast-track' processing to enable termination of this major noise nuisance. Guy Russ is in contact with Lambeth Planning and will revert to David by Tuesday (12th April) with details of who such a letter should be addressed to and Case Number etc. David will pass these details on to whoever picks up the ball.
